“Tethered” is my ongoing commitment to reexam the everyday lives of women through my art. Rich lives that were so often brushed over or rarely mentioned in history. These middle to upper class women are framed in leather to encourage the viewer come closer and focus on her as an individual. Seemingly, the women are living in abundant times; yet, while even in personal triumphs, such as in “Mary, The Graduate,” they are harnessed to a systematic gender suppression. It this “false sense of freedom” that I am exploring in this series. These women will undoubtedly feel the “jolt” of the harness if venturing too high or too far and with that, could they truly live a realized life.
